February 2019- Reflection♡ 15/03/2019 During the month of February, we studied a new area in media which was 'Television'. We researched the BBC and its significant role in TV, primarily in the UK, but also globally. We looked into two main CSP's: Doctor Who which began in 1963 and still continues to present day, and Class which began in 2016 and unfortunately, ended after only one season, I really enjoyed this unit because it allowed me to gain wider knowledge on the BBC which is so commonly talked about yet I still didn't know how big of a role it played in the production of some of the best TV content. Studying Class was a bit more difficult as it explored harder concepts such as multi-strand narratives and intertextuality since it was a spin-off of Doctor Who, both produced by the BBC. Currently, I am in the process of producing my own, original teaser trailer for a TV show which I have thought of. Our teaser trailer has to target teenagers which is quite convenient as, I, myself, fall into that category therefore, I have a good understanding of what is enjoyed by people of my age. My idea revolves around a female hero and a male villain along with a male love interest which the hero falls in love with. I like my idea because it features a female hero which is quite rare due to the stereotype of males being more dominant and therefore would attract more people. I am really enjoying developing my ideas and will start filming shots next week.
In our photography and photoshop lessons with Mrs. Rayner, we learnt how to do more things with photoshop such as adding text and also changing the appearance of the image through things like saturation, brightness, and also by adding filters to add effect. For example, by reducing saturation, brightness and adding a back and white filter, the picture could be given a quite dull, lonely and old look. We were also set a project to create our own album cover inspired by the concept of 'Joiners' by David Hockney (shown on the Photoshop page). I used my friend as a model and took several close-ups of my model using my phone. Since I left my photography for this project to the last minute, I could not use a camera and had to use my phone instead. However, with this being our first project I have already learnt to take photos the first chance I have as it then gives me maximum time to edit and make my final product up to a high standard. I was quite happy with how my album cover turned out but I think it could definitely be improved vastly because I chose the simplest idea. The next project, which still remains a secret, will last till summer. I will attempt to manage time more efficiently and apply more photoshop techniques.
