Term 1 Overview ♡ 16/01/2019 I found term 1 to be quite an adventurous journey in terms of media studies. Starting a new subject is always hard however, I have thoroughly enjoyed researching about the different CSP's that we have looked into such as Zoella, who I already knew a lot about, and then specific magazines such as Tatler, which I had no knowledge about. Therefore, it has helped me to learn about a lot of new things which I can use in other subjects. The most enjoyable part of term 1, in my opinion was our own production of a magazine cover, an advert and a double page spread article. I very much enjoyed researching magazine names, effective techniques, photography poses and so much more which I then used to enhance my production work. I put my hardest of efforts in to making my magazine cover perfect meaning, it would have all the distinguishable techniques that we head learned about previously when analysing other magazines for our CSP's such as Tatler, Reveal and a magazine of our choice (I had chosen Vogue). We recently did an assessment on the 13th of January, 2019. It was based around the three medias that we have studied so far which are online, social and participatory media, advertising and marketing and lastly, magazines. I did struggle on the test but I think that it was my fault for not having gone through all of the content that we had covered before the test. I struggled a lot on the last question because I didn't understand what it was asking however, I think the other questions were all thing we had learnt above. Regardless, I still failed to remember a lot of details and if I was to do this test again, I would do it differently. I would definitely revise more by reading over all the main points of each CSP in the different types of medias we have learnt, going over terminology and also practicing my writing techniques. For example, sentence starters and how to elaborate on a point by using media language such as 'connotations' and specific terminology from each of the three medias.
In addition to this, we learned a few more techniques on photoshop such as cutting a part of a photo out using the mask tool. We also learned how to add filters and text to a photo as well as edit the saturation, shadows and etc. In our most recent photography lesson which was the 14th of January, a university student, from Bristol, had come to give us a sort of photography workshop. We were told about a photography project on behalf of the British council called 'The place I call home' which expresses the lives of foreigners in conjunction with locals in countries across the middle east. He showed us his film camera as well as lights and briefly how to use the direction of sunlight to your advantage when taking pictures. I really enjoyed knowing and watching how a film camera is still used and I wish we could do it again but with more time.
